Complete: Stebbins Theater 2.5 !
My basement
theater room started with a Mitsubishi 65" HDTV. We enjoyed
that for a few years, but I got bitten with the home theater bug and
purchased a Mitsubishi HC3000u 720 DLP projector.
After enjoying it for almost a year,
I decided to step up and order a Mitsubishi HC4900 1080p LCD
Projector. I'm projecting onto a 100" DIY screen consisting of a custom 1" square tube
aluminum frame, WilsonArt Designer White Laminate, and have added some
felt-covered border material with a custom backlight.
We started on our
home theater in early 2003. I had originally planned to do a
dedicated theater in conjunction with finishing my basement, but
quickly realized that a dedicated theater would limit the basement's
usefulness. Instead, my wife and I decided that we would make best
use of the space downstairs and make it a combined tv/theater that
could also be used for entertaining. My main concern was movies and
gaming. However, since it's in the basement, it's dark in there most
of the time and great for movies during the day as well as at night.
It is 100% light controlled using some panels I made to attach to
the basement windows.
The basement took about a year to
complete, and we enjoyed it for about 3 years before I decided to
rip out the existing rear-projection Mitsubishi TV and go with a
projector. I was nervous when I started, but after seeing the 100"
picture for the first time, I've never looked back.
Below are some pictures of my new and old setup
in the basement theater, and I just added
pics of my new living room setup
with a Vizio 42" GV42LF 1080p TV, TiVo HD, and Sony receiver.
